Berger. The object of this Company is to provide tonnage sui:ablu t-> tho growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that tho imports and exports of our city may be hs much as possible carried in iocally owned vessels, and the shipping business carried on by a PCBEtiT liOCAL COMPANY. The *a.tes of freights current in this colony compare most favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently remunerative to leave a good profit, trading limce eit er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commermercial im ortance of Auckland is a source of gratification, and f>e shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capita], would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we are st present not in absolutely direct communication. ■ The object of this Company is to provide Trssels to trade in the directions already opened, and others which may from time to time offer inducements. I Ihere is ample room for a well-organised new lino between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and with eoroe of the larg r centres of Continental , European trades. Of course, the large and , increasing export of balk and Bawn timber will form an important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Ac, being already established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the New* caslie and Greymouth coal trades should be also provided for. There is a vast field ia prospective for a ' good trade with A = erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Cape, Noumea, and nnmerous foreign por.s, with some of which, even at the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being curried on in a desultory ■ manner, and which would find] support . from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessols when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs Stone Bros., who have for some time carried on a good snipping business, and who have now fairly started » new London line, possess the nucleus of a^fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over iheir vessels and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that the business may be extended without delay, especially the LondDn and American branches. The servic s of Mr C. 3. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present under his control, who are experienced in this line of business,, have been secured to take office uuder the hew Company. It is further proposed that the working ex* penees should be conduct ed on strictly economical principles, tbe expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set down at £150, 000, but as only a small portion is required at ' present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, farther capital will not be called up untl vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at leasonable prices, until which time it is pro* posed to charter vessels as required to supplemerit the present fleet. . It is proposed to invite all Auckland busi-ness-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port, to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. Xhe Company wonld thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most - successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then - not fa.il to bo a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Share-holders. The promoters having every confidence ia the sucvess of tbe undertaking, now appeal to the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shar g. LIST OF VESSELS. These figures serve to show that with a larger fleet, extended business, and more . capital, substantial dividends may confidently i be anticipated. 1400
