Seceetabx, pbo tbv. : . J. 0. Berger. The object; of this Company is to provide tonnage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the" imports and exports of our city may be as much aa possible carried in lOCAIM OWtfED YEBSEH, and the shipping business carried on by a FPBUrT XOOAL COM PINY. The >ates of freights current in this colony compa-e most favorably with those rilling in neighboring colonies, and are as a> rule-suffi-ciently remunerative to leave a good profit, - { trading hi nee eit er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commermercial im ortance of Auckland is a source of I gratification, uud the shipping trade, under I skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great, development with many parts of the World with which we are al present not in absolutely .direct communication. The object of this Company ,is to provide vssels to trade in.the directions already opened, and others which may from time .to time offer inducements. . * . • ' . 1 here is fliD pie room for. a well-organised now line between Auckland, and London, Liverpool aud Glasgow, with New York, and with tome of the larger centres of Continental Enropean trades. Of course, the large .'and increasing export of balk and-sawn timber will form' an important adjunct. A.Crade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Ac., being already established could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcißtie and Grejmouth coal trades should -bo also provided for. There is a vast field ia prospective for a good trade with A i erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Capo, Noumea, and numerous foreign ports, wi:h some of which, even at the present moment, a profitable direct trade ia beiig carried on in a desultory manner, and which would findj support from the new industries lately established here and in pr. spective establishments. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. .': i Messrs Stone Bros., who have for tome time carried on a good shipping bnsiness, and who have now fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a\leet suitable-for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over -heir vessels, and the goodwill of their shipping business for the ram of thirty tbousand.six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they faking half the amount in Company's shires. Their fleet, consisting .of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 lons, should be augmented c.a soon as possible, so that the business may be extended without delay, especially the London and American branches. . , . .•, » The servics of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing director, and tbe staf at present under his contro 1. who are experienced in this line of business, have been secured to take - offioe uuder tbe new Company. • • . It; is furiber proposed thai (he working expenses should be conducted on strictly economical principles, tbe expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commisiions on tbe ado il freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital, is set down at £150, 000, but as only a small portion is required ab present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up unt 1 vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at reasonable price?, until which time it is proposed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present fleet. . , * Ib is proposed to invite all Auckland busi-ness-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible, support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The.Company could then not ((iil to be a credit to our port, and a moit lucrative investment to Sbare-bolders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shar s. = '. LIST OF VESSELS.
