THE CHORAL SOCIETY.

(To the Editor of xhe Evening Star.)

Sib,—l am a member of the above newly formed Society^jmd hare attended the practices held in the Kauaeranga School, but on each occasion I was greatly disappointed to find tbe vocalists of the sterner sex conspicuous by their absence. Why is this? The ladies on both occasions mustered in strong force, and to my mind sang their parts in a most satiifac* tory manner, but tile basses and tenors were vory weak. It cannot surelybe that the fees charged are considered too heavy, for what is a paltry 5d a week to the very great majority of those gentlemen who signified their intention of becoming members at the meetings held in the Academy, and who were. apparently so very enthusiastic in the movement. The Committee said they could.not .carry on in a satisfactory manner without more money, and the lady members at once paid the increased fees required. Surely, if we can-afford to pay, our gentlemen friends also can. A Society of this kind is very much wanted here, and vocalists of all classes should join together and help to make our newty born Society a huge success. ''The next weekly practice is to be held to-morrow night, when we ladies hope to ace a good muster of all sorts and conditions of both men and women, prepared all to do their best to make the Society a credit to the Thames.—l am, &c, Sopbano. ; Queen street, Thames, April 18th.
