Auckland, This day
Edward Costley, an old settler in Auck* land died to-day. He left about £100,000, divisable between the Hospital, the Free Library, the Children's Training School, the Parnell Orphanage, the Auckland Institute, the Old Men's Home, and the Sailor's Home.
; (FEOM OITE OWN CORRESPONDENT). ' EdwardJ Costley, who left munificent donations to the Auckland charitable institutions, was 80 years old, and has been 45 years in the colony. Foi the past 17 years he has lived with a family named Mackie. The father is a coachbuilder, and a brother of Mackie, formerly of the Thames. It was believed that he would leave his money to that family. Everything, however, except a few inconsiderable trifles, has been left for charitable institutions.
i The total value of Cosbley's estate is £135,000—£4,000 has been left to Mrs Mackie. «The legacy duty will amount to £10,000.
