The Madagascaa DifficultyH.M.S. Dragon, 6 guns, has been ordered to Madagascar for the protection of British interests. News is to hand that a French warship has captured Port Negra, at Laonga, on the West African coast, after severe fighting with the natives. Obituary: Sir Philip Eose, Bart., the well known solicitor, aged 67.
London, April 17.
The London newspapers in their leading articles this morning, commenting upon the annexation of New Guinea by Queensland, generally express a doubt that the Imperial Government will approve the action of the Colonial authorities.
. In the course of the trial of Daniel Curley, the second of the Phoenix Park prisoners at Dublin, yesterday, the infor* mer Carey, who was under examination, testified to the fact that twenty distinct plots had been formed for the assassination oft Mr Forster, the late Chief Secretary for Ireland.
