/ BeUTBR's TeLEGEAMB. [Received April 17,1.40 p.m.] London, April 16 (evening). In the House of Commons to-day a question was put to the Undersecretary for the Colonies regarding the reported annexation of New Guinea. In reply the Hon. Erelyn Ashley confirmed the announcement, and informed the House that the island had been taken by the Quongland Government in the name of Her Majesty the Queen, pending a decision by the Imperial Government on the subject. He added that the annexation was deemed expedient, in order to prevent the acquisition of New Guinea by Foreign Powers.
The trial of Daniel Curley, the second of the prisoners charged with the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke was commenced in Dublin to-day. On the opening of the Court ei^ht jurors who hud been summoned, were found to be absent, and were ordered to pay fines of one hundred pounds each. London April 16. Another Informer. James Mullet, one of the men in custody on a charge of being concerned in the Phoenix Park murders, has been accept "d as an informer, and his state* ment accuses several prominent members of the Land League. Brady's Execution Fixed. Joseph Brady, the convicted Phoenix Park murderer, is to be hanged on the 14th of May next. Threatening Letters. The Princess Louise of Lome has relumed to Canada. The Marquis of Lome has recently received several threatening letters. i
London, April 16. An official bulletin was issued this morning regarding the health of the Queen. It announces that Her Majesty continues to improve. Her recovery from the accident at Windsor Castle, however, is slow, aud it will be impossible for Her Majesty to stand or walk for some time.
The foreman of the jury by which the prisoner Brady was convicted of the murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr Burke has received several threatening letters, and is under.continual police protection. Bernard Gallagher, who was arrested in Glasgow in connection with the Fenian conspiracies in various cities of England, has been convoyed from Giascow to London. It is, however, denied that be has turner in ormer against his alleged accomplices'
In consequence of revelations which have been made by a prisoner now undergoing sentence of penal servitude regarding the case of murder and conspiracy at Clare, Ireland, ten persons hare been arrested by the police*
