Latest Coromandel Mining.

[Pbom thk Mail.]. The general aspect of mining matters is satisfactory throughout the field. Sere«L ral leading mines are shaping well-tor a steady output of gold, and others are opening up important blocks of ground,* from which good returns are confidently expected. The improvement noticeable is not confined to any particular locality, bui is observable in the three chief flrinifigjn centres, viz., Tokatea, Beach, and Tiki' districts. Success.—ln sloping the block on the main reef south of the rise, the reef has shown gold as far as worked, and 12lbs. of specimens hare already been obtained. The next slope is expected to turnout rery well. In the north stope reins of quartz are breaking* into the footwall side of the ree , which looks disturbed in consequence, but otherwise promises well for gold. Just in-Timk!—The manager reports about 20 tons of quarts in the paddock and 30 or 40Ibs. of picked stone to hand, obtained chiefly from No. 2. He has had another week's delay waiting for the new, wheel, which i« necessary for the farther! sinking of the shaft. --' <

The last six feet has gone through a quan*. tity of quartz reins, dipping the, same as" the black reef, which latter appears, to be now in the face. The leader looks well, and it in splendid country. BfcACKMOBE.—The battery has started on a large paddock of general staff.? There: has been a bettor class of stone coming to hand of late, and it is hoped the returns will prove payable, and bring the company once more to the front, as it lias been in the background for a considerable time. Wabbiqb.—This claim is situated next to the Matawai. A reef has been discovered from which a sack of stuff was crashed during the week at the Matawai bat cry, giving the handsome return of 2ozs odwts melted gold, being at the rate of 16ozrto the ton. The gold realised £3 per ounce. Toxatea.— There is a splendid r^ef ia the face of the main level, gold showing freely in the quartz broken down for the last 20 or 30 feet, giving every reason to believe that a payable block is being opened up, extending from No. 5 slope through to the face of the main level, and probably much farther ahead, as tlie reef at present looks well, is over 2 feet wide, uud in good country. Gold is showing more or less, iv the stone coming frnm Ilia scopes, No. 5 especially yielding capital picked stone, over a hundred weight hating been broken down during the week. Tilth 'h now a good parcel of 2801 bs on h«nd. Royai Oak.—Tim contriotora aresnowin ab mt 70 feet in good ahojfmg country. It will t ike another two months to finish the first 100 feet contract; Ph? prospects of this level are very l-MoVable indeed. James Carey, one of the prisoner? at present in cmtody on the charge of conspiracy to murder in connection with the Phceoix Park outrage, and who has now turned informer, was on January 30 brought before the governor of Dublin Gaoljra which he is confined, charged with the prison offence of neglecting the cleaning of his cell. Sere is a hint for temperance reformers as well as doctors. If only they could abolish whisky and introduce the "fat female" solution, what a grand, victory over the '? drink fiend." *">w«y When is a married man like a birdP —When he comes home at 2 p.m. P 8 --For the benefit of bachelors—it not being necessary for the married faction— we explain that when a man cornea home at the hour named his wife makes him quail.
