THOSE PIGS

(To the Editor of the Erening Star.) Sib, —It is with milled feel'n^s of satisfaction and regret lbatl have perused the late correspondence in jour paper re " Those pjj?s." With satis aciioia tbat 6ne doctor, at eny rate, and some few of our townspeople bare had the courage to cry out concerning a .pest, tbat, as thiags are, bids fair to envelope our not-over healthy Borough with more dance oas and deadly di ease; and we regret tbat oar representatives in the local Ceuocil—ilie so-called caretakers and preservers of our health and well beip^—have bnen lacking either in the courage or willingness to set their foot upon sach a nuisance. The .matter is certainly one that calls for consideration, and will, if allowed to continue, undoubtedly add fuel to the flame of disease and illness. The general aspects of the matter are so serious and self-con-vincing as to leave no doubts in the minds of anyone in his senses as to the advisability —nay necessity—of forbidding the keep* ing, within the thickly populat d portions of the Borough, of these filthy animals and their filthier styes. Where, then, are we to look for an explanation of the fact that such is still allowed by our authorities, and, moreover, why are those authorities even yet withholding their ▼eto P If it was desired to remove these animals from off the face of the land, one night possibly understand it, but when it only asked that they shall be prohibited in the more crowded portions of -the Borough, the.hesitation of the city fathers gives rise to some very unpleasant suggestion's. I ti-ast this matter will not be allowed to rest where it is, but that some abler pen than mine wiU the matter up and continue doing so until we have - obtain* d the redress we seek.—l am, &c., Watchdog. * April 14,1881.
