OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
(To the Hditor of the Eyenuig S^ar).; Sib,—When are the insignificant local school committee* going to coalesce into one important body/as .tfo committees in Auckland hare done ?'.'' By the v united action of the Auckland City Schools' Committee the Education Board f have found that considerable power under the Act: is delegated to committees. The system of teaching writing peculiar to the Auckknd district schools, and known as the Vere-Foster system, does not appear to be received with favor by experienced teachers. I doubt myself if a gcod handwriting can be acquired- under thig system. If the public schools u of the Thames were regarded as good academieß for the acquisition of a fairly loundjeducation, would the private schooliH»f*fce place stand any hope of adequate sunport ?—I am, &c.,'.^\'j'; : ■.'..:-,: :>V:--■•;'" V-;-:- -
