Sib,—On the 20ih of this month the .ratepayers of this Riding are to be called on to vote in reference to the expenditure of 8800 to be spent on metal on the main roads in this district, * and-many of as are in a complete fog. What it best to be done? Our local papers tell ns that those vagabonds at the ; Thames want as to pay 150 per cent, more .rates than we do at present. Is three 'farthings in the pound 1\ per cent. : Please let us know if we get separation who will spend the money P If we do nqt vote for the money can we go in again next year, and if so. without a special tazP; Are . the Councillors personally responsible if the money is not spent on the roads for which it is passed ? Is there any necessity to collect the proposed special rate if the debentures can be paid - off out of the general rate ? What is the exact amount we pay back, and does it leave interest P Is the Count y Council . justified, or, is it sharp practice on their part to make the proposed rate ?
