In the case against Walker and other prisoners, counsel admitted the fact that the prisoners had forcibly entered upon land for tfee purpose of dispossessing the

natives, and Walker's legal right to do what he had done was argued. His Honor^ held that Walker had no right, and bound him over in the sum of £600 to appear for sentence at the next sitting of the Court. If prior to that time, he makes recompense to the natives for the crops, &c, destroyed, a nominal fine will be imposed; the other prisoners were discharged. A nolle prosequi was entered in the case of Wakuata charged with perjury. Arrived, yesterday: Barque India, from j Samoa. j Mr Benjamin Maclean, an old colonist, j and late Property Tax Commissioner,; died on Saturday. The Governor opens the Art Society's exhibition on Wednesday. The citizens' ball is being arranged for. Saturday. A blue ribbon army has been formed in Auckland, and 160 joined at the initiation of the movement. ; The German Consul has presented Capt. Kerder, of the Carola, and Capt. Ceister, of the Hyane,to the Governor to-day at Government House. His Excellency is greatly pleased with Auckland, and intends to protract his stay as long as is compatible with the discharge of his official duties. The first daylight parade of the volun« teers under the new regulations took place to-day. The muster was over three hundred strong.
