DEEP LEVFL CROSS. Soon after the new party of contractors -started work in the south crosscut at the 640 ft. level, the country became tighter, and as they could not make as much progress as was expected, they yesterday threw up the contract, which was re-let at £2 10s per foot to almost the same party of men who drove the previous 200 ft. This party have started work, and operations will be pushed on as quickly as possible. It is not unlikely the hard bar met with will prove to be identical with the most northern of those cut in the Imperial mine. GOLD KETURNS. Alburnia.—-Whitaker and party have crushed 3 loads of general dirt and a tew pounds of picked stone, at the company's mill, for the good return of 2Oozs. sdw ts. melted gold.
