NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

The manager telegraphed this morning to the effect that the retort was on the fire with 17500z5. of amalgam. This was ob tamed from the treatment of 300 loads of general dirt and 2 cwt of picked stone and specimens, and yielded the good return of 6890z5. gold. The general stuff shaped well, and it is a promising feature of the mine that a large, proportion of it came from the eastern drives, which are opening up good backs every foot they are advanced. The drives on the Mariner's reef are now about 20ft apart, and it will not be long therefore be/ore they break through. The reef in the drive south from the crosscut yielded a few pounds of stona when last b.rokendown, and the No. 2 reef at No. 5 level also showed strong colors and dabs of the precious metal. The melted weight of the return was 681 ozs lOdwts. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. The specimens and picked stone accumulated during the past month, amount' ing to about 450)bs, were treated at the Herald mill yesterday, and shaped satis- i factorily. Retorting took place eariy this morning for the good yield of 890ozs of gold, which was reduced on melting to 8690zs 8d wt. The total quantity of general dirt treated since last cleaning up, four weeks ago, is 273 loads, and the average yield is therefore over three ounces per load. The whole of this dirt was obtained from the drives and stopea on the ' erossreef at the No. 4 level of the Imperial shaft, and the slopes on the No. 2 reef above the same level. These stopes continue to look about the same as usual. Crushing will be continued with 15 head of stampers-

DART. The shaft was finished on Thursday, and the same evening the men started to out out the No. 3 chamber.
