This day.
John Rigby, a constable iv the A.CL Force, left the White Cliff oamp yesterday morning, to assist Mr Joshua Jones and party, with their horses, round the point on the beieh, on their way to Mokau, and *on nearing the tunnel he rode one of the horses, and led the other twp> The horse he was riding turned restire while swimming, and he was not seen after rounding the point. It is supposed that be was washed off by a wave, and drowned. Captain Messenger went with a boat's crew at once to the spot, and one of the men dired for the body, but without result. In the erening grappling irooi were obtained, and the body was
recovered in about 8 feet of water, close to the cliffs. An inquest will be held to day. n
