OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. The manager telegraphed this morning:—"Lead is showing in face of drive, No. 5 level. Got reef on right hand side of crosscut No. 4 level. So quartz in either place has been broken down yet.— G. S. Ciabk " The men to-day were employed in stripping the reef*. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. Tenders were opened on Thursday afternoon for driving 100 ft. at the 640 ft. level, and that of Scanlan and Punch, at £2 2s per foot, was accepted. .This is 7s 6d cheaper than the last 200 ft. has been ... driven for. The new party started work this morning, and when their contract is finished the face will be in 1140 ft. from the Big Pump shaft, or within 160 feet of being level with the Imperial shaft. The stopes above No. 4 level continue to look well, and a few picked stone are obtained each breaking down, though no larger parcels have come to hand lately. The , last parcel of tailings sold realised 3s 5d per ton. . . QUEEN OP BEAUTY. The chamber at No. 10 level will be completed on Monday. At No. 9 stoping is in progress on the Queen of the May reef. The stone shows gold when broken, and shapes payably at the mill. The reef in the stopes above No. 7 level is smaller, but otherwise there is no change to report. The mill has not been working foil time lately, the No. 9 stopes on the main' reef being exhausted, and the other blocks not yielding sufficient crushing dirt to keep the stamps going. * BRIGHT SMILE. The manager to-day brought down 401bs of specimens, which he obtained .. yesterday and to-day from the eastern drive and the stopes. The greater portion came from above the intermediate level. Crushing is proceeding at the Alburnia battery with 10 head, and is shaping for a good return. This company is paying half the cost of ; the drive on the Monarch reef from the Extended low level, so as to secure the right to use it. The reef has only been on about 16ft from the crosscut. It is a foot wide, looks well, and is improving in appearance as the workings are carried away from the hard bar.
