WELLINGTON.
This day. The Waihenga Hotel and stable in the Wairarapa were destroyed by fire last night. The following are the complete insurances :—National, £500 ; Victoria, £200; Forth British and Mercantile,
£200; Colonial, £200; Liverpool, London, and Globe, £200; total, £1300. The speech made by the Hon. E. T. Conolly at Pieton on Tuesday is not intended as a ministerial one. Yesterday, A number of steerage passengers by the steamer British King have sent a letter to the local newspapers complaining of the treatment they received during the voyage. Both papers refused to publish the letter on the grouad that it was libellous, and that the passengers had their redress by law if they wished to do so. Agaißst this may be mentioned that a very flattering testimonial was presented to the captain and officers of the steamer by a large number of steerage passengers thanking them for the utmost conrtesy and for the treatment received during the entire voyage. No complaints whatever have been lodged with the agents of the vessel.
