AUCKLAND.
This day. M"r Barstow is to be appointed Judge of the Assessment Court. The ceremony of turning the first sod of the Kaihu railway takes place to morrow. The contract let embraces 30 miles. The slaughtering of the sheep for the Mataura is going on. 300 per day are being killed, and at once placed on the vessel and frozen.
