Cricket Match.

The Auckland Cricket team left on Saturday night and expressed themselves pleased with their trip. They had a pleasant time coining to the Thames, the passage being enlivened by songs &c. The presence of Mr James Hennes>y, according to the boys, assisting in the niaiutenanco of good humour. Most of the team stayed at the Royal. Owing to the, absence of one of those selected his place was filled by Mr B. E. Isaacs whose innings' turned out well, especially the final one at Symington's, During

the match some free hitting was indulged in by the Auckland men, but a few of our fellows certainly adopted agricultural tactics in their batting, and rt is to be hoped no mower will be seen of it. Want of practice and coaching would work wonders with them. The local men bowled and fielded admirably. Coney bowled throughout both innings. A few of the boys were mucb gratified by the " turn out " of the gentler sex, and one or two little bits of loose, fielding can be attributed to the presence of the fair ones. ! The inferior quality of the plant possessed j by the local club was pointed out to the | members, and an arrangement was made I to get next year's supply of material from ! the worthy Mumford. The visitors said i the ground is one of the best in the colony and only requires a little attention to make it equal to any Home ground. After the match was concluded a return was made to town, and in the evening the Aucklanders were taken in hand by Mr Frater, and shown the lions and lionesses of the place. They left for home late on Satur „ day night. The following are. the scores unpublished by us:— Auckland—2nd Innings. > ",..' Mumford, c Egginton b Coney ...
