Mrs Mary Wafcebam was charged with . being drank in Albert street, on the 16th inst. Defendant admitted the charge: • .. During • the, absence of her •'X- husband yesterday on business the atten- ■' tion of the public and the Police was ■>' called -to a noise in the house,*and on entering they found the defendant laid on "' the stairs with her head down and her , s^* feet pointing upstairs. She was bleeding !it the mouth and nose, and was very " .;«>; drunk, in fact, that, she ..; coqld not sit in, a, chair when, placed \J. therein, .The ,bafoy was taken- from her, in,charge,.of one of the other children, as the mother could not possibly look after it. _ A constable bad to remain in the house until Mr Wakeham'a return at 1 o'clock. , During the r afternoon she was also found lying on the footpath in front of the house in a complete .state of intoxication. A prohibition order had been kpforce against her for, some months, but it did not appear to have any effect, as she 'always managed to get a supply of liquor . in some way or other. The B.M. said he thought the police Were premature in bringing this Becond - - charge, as three convictions had not yet been obtained against hen They would, howerer, be quite justified in bringing her „, up to answer it should she again be found inebriated. For the first charge she would be fined 5s or imprisoned until the rising ~ of tbe Court, and the second charge had ( be withdrawn. Court adjourned..
