AUCKLAND.
Yesterday. Henry Whitaker Duval.has been committed for trial on a charge of stealing a horse, the property of Wm. Stribley. At an inquest on the body of Charles Baker, (be seaman of the schooner Saxon, the jury returned an open rerdict of " Found drowned." The evidence showed that Baker and the woman Susan Duncan had been endeavouring, in a dingy, to get on board the Saxon for the night during Saturday night's gale, and both perished in the attempt, being in liquor. At the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, the report showed a balance in hand of £226. Mr James Eussell was elected president.. The Sailors' Best is being endourag-
ingly supported by the seamen of the port.
The cutter Magic . was wrecked near Eawau on Tuesday last. She was insured in the South British for £400.
