AUSTRALIAN. [Received March 14, 1 p.m.] Melbourne, This day. Sir Bryan OXounhlen, the ex-premier, has announced his intention of contesting the sea for West Bourke, rendered vacant by Mr A. Deakin's acceptance of the portfolio of Minister for Works. The English cricketers were banquetted last night by the Melbourne Cricket Club, prior to their departure for England. [Received March 14, noon. Sydney, This day. A large open air meeting was held yesterday at which resolutions were passed protesting against the vote for Immigration which had been passed by the assembly. Mr Taylor, the member for Mudgee made an apology in the Legislative Assembly last night, for an unfounded statement which he made recently. The. House received the apology. : ; : Sydney, Yesterday. The barque Victor, just arrived at Newcastle, reports that on.the sth inst. she found the wreck of a large vessel bottom upwards off the coast of Tasmania. The wreck is believed to be that of the brig Louisa which left Hobart on the 16th December for Melbourne, and has not since been heard of.
