CHRISTCHURCH.
Yesterday. At the Presbytery meeting to-day it was stated that amicable arrangements had been made with the .Rev. J. Fraser to give up the churcb at once and the manse in six months; he to be paid a stipend of £420, and in consideration of his services for the church and to education a subscription be raised by his former congregation for a testimonial. It is understood that Mr Fraser continues working in West Melton. In the District Court to»dny it was proved that in the Railway Department; men received notice each night if wanted next day; when not wanted they.were " booked off" and received no pay. The men were compelled by the regulations to hold themselves available if required, so that they can take no work on " booked off." days. The Caledonian Society have received £20 worth of books intended as a nucleus of a Scottish reference library!
