OUR MINES.

DEEP LEVEL CROSS.

The stopes above No. 4 Imperial lerel and the drive on the hangingwall leader produced 50lbs of good picked stone yes^ terday and last night. A little gold was also left showing. The whole face of the drive is now filled with quartz, but the junction of the two leaders has not yet been reached. The men are at present making a dig in the footwall of the reef, so as to be able to shoot it down more easily. No gold has yet been seen in the new body of quartz. The crashing at the Herald mill is shaping better than it did last month. There is nothing fresh to report from the workings at the 640ftlevel. The manager says in his report on Wednesday last:—" I may say that the slide is going more upright now, and there is every appearance at present of this block being payable above No. 3 lerel. At the 640 ft level the ground in the crosscut still continues good, but the contractors have not been making so much progress during the past week, as their time lias been partly occupied in putting in timber to securo the ground. The drive is still being continued on the Mariner's reef, but without much change. Thereof to all appearance would lead anyone to believe that gold would be got in it at any time, but so far we have not been successful." .
