Thames Borough Council.

The usual meeting was held last evening. Present—The Mayor (presiding), and Crs Wilson, Carpenter, McCnllongh, Mennie, McGowan, Veale, and Bawden.

The minutea of the previous meeting having been read, the following applications were granted : —Thomas Dick, blacksmith, permission to erect the chimnies of his forge, Pollen street; Mr C. Waite leave to lay down a box drain under the footpath in Albert street to carry off the water drawn from the Winding Association shaft, also to make a crossing for drays in front of the Hauraki Hall, to break the footpath when laying on water, and to erect a blacksmith's forge; Mr E. H. Harrison leave to erect an iron funnel for a smoke stack on the Winding Association's'works. .

Attention to the condition of Broad , street was drawn by residents. ■ Mr W. Davies aßked that the footpath in Eolleston street be seen to; this work had been ordered previously. . Mr J. S. Perry's application for leave „to remove obstructions from the mouth of the Waiotahi culvert was referred to the Works Committee.

The letter of Mr John Bead, asking a reconsideration of the Council's decision relative to a payment on account of the Waiorahi aqueduct was referred to the same Committee.

Mr Bickits wrote stating that the Foreman of Works had proceeded against him for removing earth in the Borough; he had! done so through ignorance of any prohibiting regulation, and he desired that the Council should not press their proceedings.—lt was decided to withdraw the action upon the offender replacing the earth, and paying the legal costs incurred.

In reply to Sergt.-Major Kiely, asking the Council to bear a portion of the ■ expense- in connection with the search party recently sent to look for the men who were lost in the bush, the Council said they had no funds at their disposal ' for the purpose. A recommendation by the Works Committee to lay down asphalt.from the premises of Mr Stewart to thoße of Mr Fletcher was adopted ; as was also the report of the Water Supply Committee which recommended that Mr Wesi^ of GreyStreet, be only charged with water for the half year, and that in future his charge be £5 per annum; and that if Mr Garrett, of Mackey-street, would provide the service»pipes and lay them down at his own cost he be allowed free water supply for five years. The reports of the Foreman of Works and the Believing Officer and Inspector of Nuisances were read and received. Ac counts to the amount of £31614s 4d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned. ■ : ;
