la theXegishtive Assembly last night, the debate on the Address in Eeply to the Governor's speech, and Mr Service'^ amendment thereto, was resumed. The
principal speakers were Messrs Young and Bent, and the leaders of the Conservative party. The principal liberals abstained from discussion, and finally Mr Service's amendment setting forth that the Ministry do not possess the confidence of the House was carried without a division. The House then adjourned. ..Ii is expected that the Ministry will resign to-day.
Melbourne, Yesterday. Australian Cup.
For the Australian Cup, 2 miles and a quarter, the following horses started :— Commotion, Cunnamulla, Odd Trifle, Sardonyx, First Water, Ooriolanus, Mistaken, King of the Vale, Lesbia, Navigator, and Guesswork. The winner was ridden by Hales«. The betting at the post was 2tol on Navigator. Mistaken and King of the Vale made the running, the favorite lying nearly last till the turn for the straight. On entering the straight, Navigator went forward and just won pretty easily; Willeroo second, Guesswork third. Time, 4mins 2secs.
The Sires' Produce Stakes, three quar ters of a mile, was won easily by Warwick, Off Colour second, St. Laurence third.
Dr Beaney has been elected a representative of the North Yarra province in the Legislative Council. The Australian overland lines are inter»upted. r Sydney, Yesterday. An immense and enthusiastic meeting to protest against Mr Redmond's mission on behalf of the Irish National League was held here this evening. Sir Henry Parkes and several members of the Legis lature, besides minisfers of various denominations, were present. The meeting at one time was very disorderly, and the speakers were unable to obtain a hearing. Several free fights between the supporters of Mr Redmond and his opponents occurred. The malcontents were, however, forcibly ejected from the hall, and resolutions of protest were passed. The contest between Messrs McElhone and Taylor, for the representation of Mudgee, look place to-day, and resulted in the defeat of Mr McKlhone.
