The Town Clerk called the attention of the Judge to the fact that objections were not required to be sent in until the 15th • February, and the Act required seTen clear days' notice to be sent to persons affected -by objections, and the Court . being called for the 23rd precluded the. possibility ofLsach being done. The Bench thought ibat the Town Clerk need not wait until that date to send out the notices required ; they could , be issued immediately the notices were received. . F. E. Baume, on behalf of Louis " . Ehrenfried, objected to his name being on j the rate list for the Bendigo Hotel, in Pollen street, and applied that Mr J. M. - Syms' same b« inserted as occupier.—Tbe case was adjourned for a week to allow the tenure of Mr Syms' tenancy to be shown. The same objector applied that "the name of Mr W. 8. Styak be substituted for bis in respect of a house in Mack ay street, —This was granted. James Benwick objected to the name of W. F; Mason being on the roll in respect of the Imperial Hotel, Pollen street, as he was the occupier.—The hearing was adjourned for. a week to enable Mr Benwick ..to'be present. ." The Town Clerk objected to tbe name of William McPeak appearing on the roll. JEfe did so at the request of Mi* McPesk, who was actuated by religious sci-uples— The Bench said the Act did not contemplate religious scruples, and adjourned the case for seven days for the purpose of hearing Mr McPeak. . . M. Yon Bernewitz applied to have the nme of Dr Kiljjour inserted iosteid of his ior property in Sealey street.—Adjourned for a week to enable Dr Kilgour to be servod with a.notice. The case of Geo. Fraser, who objected lo be rated as owner or occupier t>f pvoperty in. Grey street was also adjourned to enable Mr Fraser to support bis objection. Win. Deeble objected to being rated for £60 for property in !Bolleston street. The objector deposed that the valuation was excessive; he lived on the property; be did not think he could let it. He considered the dwelling worth 3s 6d per week, the stable worth nothing, ajd the stora worth abont Ss or;10s per week. Property tax valua^on was £600—Tbe Town Clerk stated that for the two previous years the valuation was more Viau this year, and the value of property was as hi«h now, if not higher, then-it was a year a^o. —The Borough valuator said lie visited the premises yesterday, and saw a smell building vied as a stable ; he put no value on it, and reduced the valuation of the property, which is £3 less this year that last. It would be necessary for the health of people living on the premises .o remove the stable, as it is clo~e to tbe dwelling*house f and it's removal would improve the value of the property.—The valuation wat upheld. L. Ehrenfrkd applied that the name of Geo. A nthfc«j^b»-insorted on the roll for properly in Brown sireet. This case was adjourned for a week to prove the ownerihio of Mr Anthoay. An application trom Mr EhreDfri d to have the, rame of Mr Geo, Tonge placed p*\ the "roll in respect ef property in K'vkwood street, was alse adjourned to enable Mr Tonge to appear. The Town Clerk stated that in the cases of James Jeffeiy and W. Hastings, who objectel to their valuations on the ground of their being excessive, the Borough had consented to the reduction of the valuations from £13 each to £6 and d6IQ res pcctively. , The' Town Clerk applied to have the 1 name of James Patterson substi:uted for that of William Davis as owner and occupier of the Masonic Hall. The application was adjourned for a week, to allow for the attendance of Mr Patterson. The Borough agreed to the reduction of the valuation of Mr G. W., Bt 11 s property in Karaka Eoad fVom £143 to £110. The application of the Town Clerk to substitute the name of J. Smith for that of J. E. Hawley for property in Mary street, was sdjovrned for a week. J. C. Williams objected to his valuation as being excessive.- Tbe building was not a billiard room as described; it was. part of the hotel used as bedrooms. The value of it was not near £20 per annrm—" ; ,3s a week would be fair value.—The Bench reduced the valuation from £20 to £10. B. E. McGregor applied to bave the name of F. C. Dean inserted as occupier of premises in Albert street. —Mr Dean objected to this being done, and- in the absence of M? McGregor the Bench avowed his objection. « The . c-sea of Maurice Casey who" objected to being ratpd, end Louis Ehrenfried, who applied to have tbe name of B. Lukey placed on the roll in rospect of property in Abraham street, . weie adjourned for seven days. Samuel Bawden objected to being rated for pioperty at Tar-iru, on the ground that the land was held for goldmining pur- ! poses.-^-Aftsr hearing Mr Bawden and the Town Clerk, the Court allowed the objeetioa. The Court then adjourned until 3 o'clock p.m..on the 30th inst.
