Yesterday. The returns of the E.M. Court show that, during the year 1882,2917 males and 583 females were taken into custody. Summoned or apprehended for criminal charges, 272 males, 65 females ; discharged for want of evidence, 37.9 males, 50 females; dismissed on merits of case, 65 males, 75 females ; committed for, trial, 818 males, 330 females. ~ Summarily convicted: the number charged with being drunk is 956 against 628 in 1881. In the civil business the aggregate amount sued for was £43,384 13s lid.
