WELLINGTON.
Yesterday. A man named Robert Beeves was killed by the upsetting of a dray on the Porirua Eoad last night. He was driving a load when it capsized and fell on deceased, breaking in his chest. Death was instantaneous.
A meeting was held last night for the purpose of petitioning the Governor to release Longhurst. A committee was appointed to draw up a petition and further the object of vthe meeting. The ship Lady Jocelyn will probably take her departure for London to-morrow afternoon. The last shipment of meat will be placed on board j&t daylight, and it is expected that she will be able to cast off in the course of the day. Operations were only commenced on the 17th ult., aud work has therefore only occupied about five weeks. The Lady Jocelyn takes Home about 5800 carcases of sheep, 88 of cattle, arid also a quantity of produce.
