Just-ix-Time. —The rich gold struck
in No. 2 reef in the face of the low level has fully justified the exppctations formed t of. its value.; the reef continues strong and permanent, showing good gold at each breaking down, is continuing its course in settled country, and appears to be going direct towards the crown of the hill, thus giving greater backs the further the level advances. Thursday's .breaking down of No. 2 and past the slide, resulted in another .haul ot picked stone, about 20 to 301bs weight, a little gold still showing in the face of the reef,' which is looking well.
No. 1 has crossed the first slide and made some gold, a,few.pounds of good speci- .. mens being obtained. loNA.-r-Excellent progress has been ;"' made in, the difficult task of opening up a fresh level from the shaft and though at the time of going to press, there had been no breaking down of the new reef there is every reason to expect good stone from it, A mining survey just completed gires en- " couragement to push the low level ahead as soon as the shaft is clear. —The manager
T- reports under Saturday's date :—" lam glad to report hating got pood gold on - Thursday last: In the shaft I cut out two or three soft slabs at a depth of about 130 feei from the surface, or midway between the. upj^r and lower level, and immediately "behind the shaft timbers I got ■? '■tone''showing., good gold.' The'reef is /;.,,phe foot tbick,,an,dfrom my knowledge o . the-Green Harp and Cross, reefs, I, feel confident it i» one of those reefs. I have . a cross-cat going east from the low lerel s <for the. purpose, of cutting the reef we ■>-. bite in the shaft, but it will hare a con- ': mderable distance to go yet. I thiflk the : reef will torn'out welt" UsiTED.-^The rich leader known to exist at the bottom'of the" shaft will probably be- worked from the read letel of 'the Union Beach, an application tb.ihat ; effect having been made to the manager of ,:', that company. , ' ' ■' TokatEa.—rXhis renowned, old mine ' promises to come to the front again and :• to* add to the growing .prosperity of the • • place ; stopiog operations are now fairly started from the low level, and on Wed« nesday evening 70 lbs. of good picked stone were obtained with a good show left in the face. ■•' Antwiss and Carroll have taken op a valuable piece of ground to the west of the Just-in-Time. O'Brien and Regan are busy carting mining timber preparatory to making their new shaft. Success. —The work of sinking to meet the rise baß proceeded as rapidly as possible under the circumstances. ILiPANaA.—GoId has been showing during the week in several parts of the mine, but not in. so large quantities as could be desired. At the same time there is show enough to prove that large and valuable blocks of ground exist, some of which will, in all probability, produce a large quantity: of gold. Homewabd Bousd. —The leading stop? has been carried along 35 feet, and the * second; stopt) fairly started. It is belie red that the next slope will cut the run of gold, very little having been seen in the former stone. ; - ■ , BIACKHOBI.—It is intended to. start erushiog »«it week." when 60 or 80 tons will be forwarded to the battery. Hoke ■ ETTLE.-^Good crushing stuff has come to hand from the low level, a fair show of gold having having been seen through the stone. .. Tixxnan's —'This mine looks well in all, parts. Some excellent atone came to hand during the past week. .- ■ Comstock.—Tke proprietors of this mine expect to' be able. to bring it to the front again before long as a. gold pro> ducer. Sttez (Carew's lease).—Under ' new arrangements $he work< of sinking rwas resumed, this week. The required-depth of 15, feet will probably be attained in four weeks hence. ' The shareholders believe thai the new find in the lona strikes for the Suez claim, and will Just-in-Time reef, for which the shaft is probably be found as a parallel reef to the being sunk: Aibion is situated on the crown of the mainspurthrough which the Just-in-rTime reef runs, and extends to a point near the Union Beach battery.. The advantageous position of this ground i» shown,by .the fact that it is surrounded by the Union Beach, Just-in-Time, and lona mines. Arrangements are being made to form a company to work the Albion ground.— / Mail. . • ,-- , ■'. . r . -
