; , ; . This day.. George Smith, better known as Chaffy, one of the oldest residents on the Dun* stan, is missing. He is supposed to have fallen into the river while intoxicated. The Immigration Office forwarded to Wellington applications for 55 souls, equal to 46J statute adults. Yestefday. The New Zealand Electrio.Light Company, on Saturday night, lit up the hall of Watson's hotel with two of their smallest Brush arc lights. The trial was thoroughly satisfactory, and the light is to be con-
tinued. Three negatives were taken by ■•a local photographer to >test the effect of the light for photographic purposes, and all three turned out well. The plates were exposed for two, ten, and thirty seconds. The Licensed Tictuallers of Dunedin Central District have determined not to attend the public meetirig to-morrow nightin regard to the Committee elections, as they do not recognise that a meeting has the right to decide the 10 o'clock liceDsing_questiQu»,-but .that it should be left to an impartial Licensing Committee. j -tThe weather, after three days of rain, j has now cleared up.
