Sudden Death.
On Sunday information was given to the Police by OD6 James MoUeieh that, a man named James Erakine, aged about 45, had died somewhat suddenly at Hiku-, taia on that day. From the information to hand appears that deceased was engaged as a gum digger for Mr J. JR. Banks at about ten miles from Hikutaia, and on Saturday morning he, feeling ill, expressed a wish to go to the Thames Hospital for medical advice. A horse was lent him by Mr Banks' packer, ou which he travelled as far as Hikutaia. Not .feeling any better he went to bed there, .and at two o'clock on Sunday morning the
inmates of the house were awakened,.by hisiieavy breathing, and in a few minutes aftf r he expired. An inquest was held at the Pioneer Hotel, Hikutaia, yesterday, before Dr Kilgour (Coroner), and a jury. Constable Stapleton, of the Thames, represented the police. Dr Callan deposed having held a postmortem examination of the body, and found that the cause of death was heart disease. After further evidence had been adduced a,verdict.in.accordance, with the medical testimony was returned. *.
