The Inman steamer, City of Brussels, Captain Land, from New York, December 28th, for Liverpool, was run down in the English Channel by a Glasgow steamer, the Kirky Hall, during a fog, and eight of the crew and two passengers were drowned. The City of Brussels foundered almost immediately. The Scotch steamer, which arrived at Liverpool, January 9tb, reported that the collision occurred at the estuary of the Mersey, about 2§ miles from the lightship. The main compartment of the City of Brussels was cut right in two. Because of the breach in the hull the bulkhead of the steamer shifted, thus accounting for her speedy sinking. The cargo was valued at £350,000, and the vessel at £800,000 ; insurance on the cargo, £75,000 to £100,000.
Why was Ooliah surprised when he was struck by the stone P—Because sudh a thing had never struck him, or entered, his head before.
