NEW PRINCK IMPERIAL.

The manager banked 34ozs 10 dwts gold yesterday, the result of 20 bmvt of dirt put through at the Kuninui Hill battery. The winze is dov»n 67 feet, and the leader, though somewhat smaller, is showing gold freely. DART. The country in the shaft continues an excellent class of while sandstone, and good progress is being made with the J sinking of No. 3 level. The men are now j down abut 26 feet bek'W Ko. 2 level,! leaving only about 50 feet yet to sink, i The directors have purchased from the j Kuranui Hill Company the 10 inch pump and gear in the Albion shaft, and plans are now being prepared for its erection. Tenders will be called for the work shortly. The 25 horse-power engine purchased from Fraser and Tinne will be put up where the one at present in use stands, and will pump and wind and wind at the one time, though the manager will be able at pleasure to use it for either purpose. MAGNOLIA. The manager is still driving on the hangiugwall of the Gibraltar reef, and has advanced the face 56 feet since work was started. A couple of shots were put into the reef yesterday, and the stone thrown out was well mineralised, and looked very favorable for the existence of gold, though none was seen in it. The country in the face appears to be rather disturbed at present by a number of soapy heads, and these make it necessary to timber up close behind the; face.. The manager expects that the country will change when he gets in a few feet further. An improvement is noticeable in the face near the floor. '1 he reef is somewhat affected by a clay head, which Mr Sabe. thinks will change its underlie, and make it the same as it is at the level above. At this level a good shot of gold was worked, the dirt yieldine three and four ounces per load. This dips into the hill, bat was never followed down, and it is for the purpose of picking it up that the drive is now being pushed ahead. Another large reef, some* 30 feet south of the Gibraltar, yieldedl . good crushings near the surface. This could easily be picked up by a short crosscut when it is found desirable. A hopper; capable of holding from 15 to 20 loads, has been made on the side of the Te Papa road, ready for the storage of quartz when crushing dirt is being broken. SEYMOUR. The new poppet legs have been, placed in position, and men are now putting on the brace. The bed logs for the engine were laid down to-day, and'the boiler will be carted to the mine to-morrow, and built in'next week. As the whole of the material for the engine house is on the ground, Mr Kneebone expects to be able to start winding in about five weeks. BRIGHT SMILE. The crushing at the Kuranui Hill battery was completed yesterday, and retorting took place this morning for the capital result of 17Oozs gold, which was reduced on melting to 1660zs 14dwts. The general dirt, of which 40 lords were treated, yielded about 2ozs per load, and the show on the plates was very regular throughout. 2001b* of picked stone and specimens were crushed, and gave 9dwts per Ib The mine continues to look well all through. The eastern drire at the bottom level is in 46 feet. The reef averages six inches in width, shows colors of gold when broken, and produces a few picked stone. The manager will, as soon as he gets a few feet further ahead, put up a rise to the intermediate .?evel and sterfc to stope out the block. Westward at the low level there is, already a new block 40ft in length opened up. The mauager has been taking a good deal of stuff from here lately, but he now intends to push on the drive. At the intermediate level driving and stoping is in progress, and " good crushing dirt coming to hand. A dropper from the reef, about 4 inches thick, was come upon lately, and some good pieces of stone were bagged from it. The junction is dipping eastward, so the low level will have to be exlended some distance further before it is mot with. EXTENDED. ; The crosscut is now in a total distance of 210 feet, the last 60 of which lies been through very hard ground. The manager, however, thinks he has just about pierced •this bar, so a change for the better may be expected. He e3timates there is yet some 60 or 70 feet to drive before the main reef is intersected. ALBURNIA. The manager cleaned up. and retorted yesterday, and the return, after melting weighed 34ozs 7dwts gold. For this 53 loads of general dirt from the leading stopes over the intermediate drive on Dixon's reef were treated. KUEANUI HILL. Cleaning up and retorting took place to day at the battery, and yielded 61jozs gold. The chief portion of the dirt came from the stopes on Dabb's leader in the Oddfellows' section, and the winze in the Poverty section. The rest of the dirt was composed of trial parcels, but none of them were very good. The leader in the drive from the Albion 80ft level produced about 41bs of good stone yesterday when broken down. It is about a foot wide, and the quartz is heavily mineralised. This drive will be on a; level with the Poverty winze next week, but the manager is not yet sure that the leaders in tho winze and drive are identical. When sinking the winze, at a depth of 41 feet, the leader split, and he followed the hangingwall portion, which he now thinks was the wrong one. The finding of gold here is encouraging, as an immense block of ground can be opened up with very little expense if the leader now in band and others on both sides of it should prove payable.
