OUR MINES.
MARINER AJMD LONDON. The change in the direction of the wind dispelled the g»s which has been so troublesome for weeks past, and the men started to'continue the winze below No. 2 lerel this morning. The contractors for the erection of the witidiDg machinery, «kc, are making fair progress. NEW PRINCK IMPERIAL. The country in the sha't continues very hard, but the men expect to finish sinking by the end. of this week. After that, however, they will be employed two or three days timbering up before the contract is completed. Very good pro. gress has been made with the. winzo, whiob is now down, about 60ft. The sandstone continues of the same favorable class for gold, and the reef also looks well, keepiDg about the same size and ■bowing colors of the precious metal when taken down." A small leader about 2 inches wide dropped into the reef on the bangingwall a few feet from the bottom. Colors of gold have been seen in it. Daring the hot weather lately the gas caused considerable trouble, and work had to be . suspended yesterday. The crosscut on the break has holed through to the drive on the new reef at the point where it was heaved, and the air in the crosscut for the Mariner's reef ha::-**4n consequence improved. Gr-od progress is mede here, in a capital class of .country for gold, and easily worked, the stopes from the eastward side of the shaft have broken through to those on the western side, and the whole block, 340 ft. in length, is now in hand. The reef looks well in all the stopes, colors of gold being seen. A fine show is visible in the roof of the slope west of the break, and close to the small break cnt near the Cross boundary. Stopes are approaching this point from either side, but it will be some days before it is reached. HAND OF FRIENDSHIP.
The contractors for driving on the Beach reef at No. 3'level of the Imperial are- making very good progress. The country is of a frir class for gold, but the leader is small and somewhat disturbed.
DEEP LEVFL CROSS.
Driving has been started on the reef which came in on the hangingwall of the No. 2, towards the Imperial boundary. A nice looking body of gnartz about 15 inches wide is showing in tie drive, which as yet has only been advanced sor 6 feet. It is well mineralised, and some good colors and dabs of gold have been seen in taking it down. The
leading stope is now nearly forward to where the reef was cut off. , After passing through the break come upon last Wednesday, a body of quartz was cut, but this only continued a few feet, and then gave place to stiff clay, through which a littje quartz was visible. A fine body of quartz is showing in the atopes, and colors of gold are seen in breaking. The highest stope, close to the - winze, is about 20 feet above the back of the level.
