OUR MINES.

MOANATAIRI

The manager reported for last week as follows :—" The new cross-cut at 80 feet level has been advanced 20 feet towards No. 2 reef during the past fortnight. The country is favorable for driving as well as for gold, fiedan section : No. 9 footwall lead, 80 feet level: A parcel of 5 tons has been treated from here since my last, proving it to be just payable. The lead has a very healthy appearance at present. Tunnel level: A lead, showing good indications for gold, was struck in drive north of Don Pedro on Thursday last; it crossed the face of drive, having a north-east and Bouth-west course. I believe it to be identical with the footwall portion of No. 3 reef. We have driven 60 feet on lode corresponding with the one worked by the Don Pedro tributers ; its strike is northerly, but it is no good so far as we have driven on it. Heldt's section, 132 ft level: The stopes on No. 9 branch leaders have produced about 401bs of picked stone throughout the week. Some of them are very good. The general dirt from here is of low grade. This is accounted for when considering that the leaders are small and the gold easily seen, and picked, and thus impoverishing the general stuff. Nonpareil, 215 ft. level: There is a strong body of quartz from 2 to 3 feet in width in the face of .. drive, and from which we obtained 161bs of picked stone during the week. Nothing fresh to report on any other point in hand throughout the mine. Tarn supplying 10 head of stampers, while' the. rest are being employed for our tributers and outsiders. White and party crushed 1 load of general stuff and 13lbs specimens, which melted 23ozs 17dwts of gold. They are working a small surface lead in the Little and Good section.— J. G. Vivian." ; WAIOTAHI. The manager cleaned up and retorted this morning for the yield of 1490zs lOdwts gold. This is the result of a little over a fortnight's work, during which time 85 tons of general dirt have been put through the mill. The weight after melting was 1470zs sdwts. THAMES GOLDEN CEOWN. Cleaning up and retorting took place to-day after about a fortnight's work, for the return of 96ozs 19dwts melted gold, for which 150 tons of dirt have been treated. BRIGHT SMILE. The manager banked 601 bs specimens on Saturday, making the total quantity .on hand over 200lbs. Crushing is proceeding

at the Kuranui Hill mill with 15 head of stamps. It is shaping about the same as last .crushing. Cleaning up will take place next week, by which time about 35 loads of quartz will have been treated.

GOLDEN HILL NO. 1 (TE AEOHA.)

Maddens and party, the proprietors of this claim, which embraces a portion of the old Prospectors, have finished a crushing of one load of general dirt at the Kuranui Hill battery for the yield of 2f ozs gold. This parcel was another trial lot from the same leader as the one treated about two months ago, but from a point fully 250 feet distant, and close to the boundary of the London claim. Very little gold" was seen in breaking the quartz, and the men did not expect it to yield more than an ounce per load. *r The leader was followed on the surface for the distance mentioned, and a little gold seen in it. At the point from which the present crushing was taken several smaller veins run into the main leader. The proprietors having now pretty well proved the large "block lying between where the two parcels were obtained to be payable, intend to drive on the leader from a low level which will give them 60 feet of backs. They also purpose erecting a shoot and hopper, and will if possible make arrangements to crush at the 11 stamper mill at Morgantown.
