Yesterday. Tbe Customs duties for the month amount to £21,449; the corresponding month of last year was £20,113. The beer duty amounted to £592. The vital statistics for this month show 115 births, 44 deaths, and 19 marriages. Sir Wm. Jerrois held his first levee .this afternoon. A large number of gen* : tlemen attended.. The Hon. Dr Pollen, Chairman of the South Island Trunk Railway Extension Commission, left for the South to-day to confer with his colleagues before sending in their report. The amount of the defalcations of the absconder, Charles White, amount to nearly £1900. '
