The Scholarships' Competition.

Attckland, Yesterday. . At the meeting of the Board of Education the report on the scholarships' examination was read. The following number of candidates attended:—At Auckland, 57 boys, 53 girls; at Thames, 7 boys, 6 girls; at Hamilton, 10 boys, 13 girls; aggregate—74 boys, 62 girls—total, 136. Eight scholarships were offered for competition. 95 candidates each obtained a total of one half of the aggregate, but only 19 succeeded in gaining half marks in each subject separately. The following is the list of candidates to whom scholarships have been awarded:—Effie Sophia Bull, Mount Hobson Girls' School, 16 years, 795 marks; Charles Henry Smith, New ton East, 15 years, 790 marks ; George Meynell Caltert, Pokeno Valley, 16 years, 758 marks; Dorcas Elizabeth Cleveland, 15 years, Newton East, 742

marks; Agnes French, 15 years, Mount Albert, 733 marks; Margaret Elizabeth 16 years, Nelson-street School, 729 marks ;. Henry James Carter, 16 years, Alexandra, 708 marks ; Elizabeth Ada

Nixon, 15 years, Cambridge, 696 marks ;

Chaa. Jas. Tunks, Tauranga, 15 years, 743 marks, failed in arithmetic; and Alfred Fordyce Burton, 16 yearß, Onehunga, 735 marks, failed in writing.— Certificates of proficiency wer awarded to Ellen Kobb, 15, Onehunga, 690 marks ; Mark Bowles, 15,' Beresford street, 683 'marks; Emily Mabel Westwood, 15, Mount Hobson, 675 marks; Ada Mary Tristram, 17, Te Awamutu, 673 marks; Joseph Henry. 16, Fatumaboe, 650 marks; James W.
