At a meeting of the Directors of the Deep Level Cross G.M. Co., held in Auckland on Thursday last, it waif resolved to issue circulars to the several companies within the drainage area of the Big Pump, notifying the fact that unless satisfactory arrangements were made by each of them for continuing operations in the way of contributions., .the pumps would stop working within two months; also that a communication should be sent to each of the companies referred to, stating that the contributions from every mine within the area should be £15 monthly, and that any deficit would have to be made good by the goldproducing mines, pro rata. This unfair and cast-iron rule has given umbrage in certain quarters, and we should not be surprised to learn that such high-handed proceeding will be resented. It would perhaps be, better for all parties concerned that'the relative benefits derived by the various mines, should form the basis of an I assessment of the amounts to be re* spectively paid by them.
