OUR MINES.

NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

A few pounds of good specimen stone were bagged last night from the reef in the bottom of, the winze at No. 4 level. The reef was not broken down today. Crushing was started this morning at the Kuranui Hill battery with 3Q head' of stampers./ ... ( . ; .. „,.;■■ -,'''■)' . WAIOTAHI. The repairs to the engine and battery haying been completed, steam was, got up yesterday, and the cages run up and down the shaft two or three times, but work was not properly, commenced, till this morning. Crushing is now proceed* ing as nsual. . - ■', BRIGHT SMILE. The manager reported yesterday:— Since my last report I have been putting a drive ahead towards the Jamaica and stoping out the reef. On breaking down the reef on Wednesday I obtained 601 bs of specimens and picked stone, and lOlbs the following day, leaving gold showing in the face in stope- I have the two hoppers full of quartz, which I shall send down as soon as I can get a battery to crush at. All the mills are standing for want of water at present. T have commenced work at the west side of the main winze, as there is a block of ground intact with drive in 40 feet and 70 feet of backs. In breaking down the reef on Friday in the second stope I picked out a good few specimens. I am also pushing on the drive on the low level going towards the Candlelight claim. . There is a very, good class of country coming in for gold. I have in bank, for safe keeping, 1501 bs specimens, and I expect to have some ! more in a few days. The reef looks well throughout the mine.—Jas. Gaevey. QUEEN OP BEAUTY. The' manager reported on Monday :— During the past fortnight another length of pipe has been put on the sinking lift, and the shaft has been sunk ~12 feet, making a depth of 35 feet below No. 9 level, and a total depth of 632 feet from the surface. The ground in the bottom of the shaft continues the same, being white sandstone, and good working ground. The Piako shaft is cleared down to No. 7 level; All the main rods in the shaft have; been brought up, and several castings during the last few days. The working barrel and the other castings of the upper draw lift will be brought up to* morrow. There is still another draw lift in the bottom of the shaft to be got up, I have called for fresh tenders for driving the crosscut to the Bird in Han i reef, which will be in to-morrow, the former contractors having refused to carryon their contract. The battery has been standing during the past week, owing to the scarcity of water in the County race. All the men in the stopes have been knocked off to-day on that account, as there is no probability of the battery working till there is rain, which does not appear to be near at hand at present. The last crushing from the No. 7 stopes yielded £oa to the load. The reef is looking well along the stopes, and averages 4 feet thick. All the pumps an machinery are ia good working order and condition.
