■'■Thb -Victorian Press has discovered that the abolition of the political management, of their railways is essential. When will New Zealand open its eyes to that fact in regard to itself?
Sib Eobbbt Geobgie Wtndham Heebebt, permanent Undersecretary for the Colonies, now created a X.C.8., received his political education in Queensland. That beautiful piece of legislation, the Licensing Act Amendment Act, 1882, is a continual source of annoyance to those who are in any way affected by its administration.' The -latest cause for complaint discovered in it is the difficulty experienced by publicans in complying with the l%fr as; regards prohibitory orders. Not onlyris,no list of prohibition notices published in any newspaper or gtzette, but none is kept in the Police Court, and the only means of obtaining information as to whom prohibition orders have been obtained against is by going back to the time the Act commenced to operate, and carefully perusing the Police Court records to the date of search. This deficiency should be remedied.
