Thames Goldfields Hospital.

A meeting of the Committee of the Thames Hospital and Old Men's Refuge was held at the Home yesterday. Present—Revs. O'Reilly (in the chair), Calder, Davies, Dr Kilgour, and Messrs Radford, Hume, Ahier, MoGowan^Men* me, Mulligan; Noonan," Renshaw, and the". The County medical officer has condemned a feather bed. brought into that hospital, and t ojrdered if, to be destroyed as an infected bed. The work of the Dispenser is stilt being -&one> by Mr Aitken's substitute-(Mr Chaloner) in a satisfactory manner. The account|^ for the present month we .recommend for payment, uptin , being' certified "by tho Surgeon and the House.Committee. The salaries we recommend for payment amount to £74 9s"Bd." r - , -v Sttbgeon :—" I have to report for the

information of your Committee that on the 30th November,. 1882, there remained in your hospital thirteen patientb. That duringthe past month, from'the Ist to the 31st December, 25 patients have been admitted, while 17 have been discharged. One patient died during the past month, viz., Margaret McMullen, aged 1; 60. There were remaining in your bpspital on December 31, 20 patientß. Thirtyeight patients hare be#n treated during the month. The average daily sick daring the month has been 17." The number of attendances in the out-patients' rocm has been 224, while the number treated lias been 61,—the largest number for vory many months. Mr Day; /Mr Aitkin's appointee, having testified his unwilling-* r ness to continue to dispj#n|e for the hospital, Mr Challoner has beeii^apppinted during the past month ; [ has ' resided altogether in the 7 hospital, andlhas performed his duties most satisfactorily... I would suggest to the Committee the desirability of the hospital keeping a few fowls, which could be almost if not quite entirely fed on scraps. I assume that fed as they might be with scraps, they would be very profitable to the institution. The fever hospital was reported as cleared. The Treasurer stated the financial position of, the institution to be as follows:—Receipts: To balance 30th November, £5 10s ;, subscriptions; * i£SO 6s 6d ; patients' charges, £518s 6d; garden £4 5s 8d; Bank of .New Zealand, £246 6s lOd. Total, £392 7s 6d.r-Expendftnre; By overdraft 30th November, £197 6s lid; salaries,..£62-3s. 8d; maintenance, £57 8s 3d; commission, 7s; miscellaneous expenses, 2s; furniture, £19 4s ,4d ; medical comforts, £5;125; drugs'and appliances, £21 4s2d ; advertising, £4ls; garden, 13s; fever hospital, £24 5s 2d. Total, £392 7s 6d.—Liabilities: Bank* of New Zealand, £246 6s lOd; salaries, £74 9s Ba.—Mr Aitken, the dispenser, Wrote to the Committee stating that be was still very unwell, and asking thefCbthihittee to allow him full pay during his absence on leave, and to pay the salary of his substitute in the Hospftal. The Rev., Mr Davies moved that Mr Aitken's request, bo acceded to, and the salary of .the acting dispenser paid until the end of the present month. Dr Eilgour seconded the mo.tion, which was- carried.—A man named George Huntley, 70 years of age, who had been discharged from the Hospital applied for admission to the Old Men's- Home. r The- matter was referred to the House Committee, ? and it was decided to ask the doctor to make some provision for s the man in the meantime. The Secretary, in reply'to Mr Mulligan, stated that a patient in the Hospital, named Tamer, was not paying for his support. He had several times asked the man to do so, and had told him of the rumors afloat concerning his having; means, but Turner firmly denied it. The House Committee for the month consists of Messrs. Abler, Bawdeo, .Fraser, and Deeble.' The Committee closed with, a, vote of thanks to the Chairman.
