OUR MINES.

NEW PEINCE IMPERIAL

The manager reported yesterday as follows :—" Stoping in the western section of the mine has been carried on aa usual. The leader in the stopes westward of the break is looking well at present, and we hare obtained 1601 bs of good picked stone therefrom during fehe past week, leaving a good show of gold in the back of the stope, which promises well for getting some more good stone when the next stope comes along. The stopes in Nos. 1 east and west sections being now high enough to admit of taking out the leader without endangering the security of the shaft, I. intend driving through and connecting the two blocks. When this work is completed, all the stopes upon this lead will be open in one block for a length, of 390 ft. The crosscut. to intersect the Mariner's reef has been extended 25ft during the past week, making the total distance now driven 73ft, leaving still about 30ft to be driren before the reef is reached. I started driving on the new lead cut in the crosscut on Thursday last, and 12ft of the leader has already been B tripped, a portion of which was broken

down to-day,.which showed colors of gold. The lead is fully 2ft thick,; composed of kindly-looking quartz, very similar to that in No. 2 reef. A winze to open up. No. 5 level was started on Wednesday last, and is now down 6ft. The lead is about 2ft thick, and looks just the same as it was in the. drive showing a few colors of gold. The shaft is now down 50ft, the country still continuing good for working. The only woik in progress "during the past week in the eastern portion of the mine has been atoping in No; 1 section, which continues to look much as usual. The battery was started this morning with 17 head of stamps, which I hope to be able to keep going steadily, as there is sufficient water at present to do so.—G-. S. Class." ,
