A consignment of twenty-two ostriches reached San Francisco from Cape Town on the l<Lth. They will be placed on an 800 acre ranche, near Bord«nfresno County, in a southern part of the State. The speculation of an ostrich farm has been undertaken by Dr J. Protherre, who went from England to Cape Town some years ago,as a practising physician. Advices from Panama, say cholera is raging fearfully at Chiapas, Mexico. Owners of, and laborers on, plantations had perished in such numbers that it was not possible to bury them. The bodies were burned. Sixty deaths a day occurred.
Tonola Vanderhilt, the railroad magnate, is reported to ha?e lost several millions lately through sharp jobs put upon him by railroad.speculators. Secretary Brooklyn, of the Board of Education, who is a defaulter to the tune of 250,000 dols., has fled the city.
