Government has undertaken not to issue a redemption loan this year at a price below par. Twenty thousand persons were present at the cricket match yesterday. The captain of the ship Thirlraere, from London, reports that on the voyage she spoke the barque Uridine, bound from Cardiff to Colombo. The captain and six of the crew of the latter had been washed overboard in a heavy gale. Melbourne, This day. Arrived, yesterday afternoon: The steamship Rotomahana, from the Bluff. Adelaide, Yesterday. Arrived: Steamship Natal, 4000 tons, from Marseilles. She is the pioneer of the Messageries Maritime Company's line to Australia and New Caledonia. Sydney, Yesterday. Arrived : Steamship Bingarooma, from Auckland. Tattersall's Cup yesterday was won by Morpeth, after a grand race. An inquest at Clarence on the bodies of those drowned by the wreck of the New England has been concluded. The jury censured the pilot at the Heads fojpieglect of duty in not rendering assistance to the steamer. Sydney, This day. The treasury returns show that durißg the December quarter the revenue of New South. Wales amounted to £2,080,000, being an increase e£ £163,000 as compared with the corresponding quarter of 1881. For the year just ended the total revenue was £7,420,000, being an increase of £704,000 on the year 1881. Melbotxbne, Tuesday. English v- Australians. The cricket match between the Aus=> tralian and English teams was resumed to-day when the Englishmen continued their second innings which closed for a total of 169. The following, are the scores : — Tylecote, b, 38; Barlow, b 28 ; C. T. Studd, b, 21; Blight, 3 ; Steele, lbw, 29 ; Leslie, b, 4; Eead, b, 29 ;G. B. Studd c, 0 ; Bates, c, 11 ; Vernon, lbw, 3 ; Barnes, not out, 2 ; extras, 11; total, 169. The Australians, requiring 56 runs to win the match, then commenced their second innings. Massie went in first, and was caught and bowled f)V nil ; Murdoch, scored 83, and Bannerman 25, both not out. The Australians thus won the match by nine wickets. The attendance at the match was enormous, great interest being taken in the contest. Intease excitement prevailed towards the close of the game. " The Australian bowling was extremely good, and dead on the wicket. The ground was in much better order than yesterday. A return match will be played here on the 19th inst.
