London, December 12
The Sultan is greatly alarmed owing to the growing discontent which prevails throughout his dominions. The recent Ministerial changes have also added to the general unsettlement. It is believed that the Sultan will now assent to the reforms proposed by Said Pasha. December 15.
The extent of the damage sustained through the fire at Hampton Court Palace has not yet been accurately ascertained. Fortunately the picture galleries, containing a superb collection of paintings, were saved from destruction. The tapestry in the stale room was not injured by the fire, but has suffered considerable damage from the effects of the water thrown on it for the purpose of preventing the spread of the conflagration. The cook employed in the palace was suffocated before he could be extricated from the burning building. -■'■.
