M edical 'Is there no hope ? the sick man said The silent doctor shook his head." While there is life there's hope, he said " MgrotO) dum animas est, spes est." DR L. ■ £7" S M■ I T H (The only legally-qualified medical man advertising). OOITBT 1 I 8 — On all affections of the Nervous System) no matter from what cause arising). On all broken-down constitutions. On all diseases arising from early indisoretions. On Gout. On Rheumatism. In these colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. „ Our regrets are useless, our repining futile. The sole idea should be the chance we possess of remedying the ills we already have, for combatting the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, wo owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till tha ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a oureful man makes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of medical man, the Bufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions and nfithout regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest munt whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and-are bankrupt in spirits, hope and'money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that J, Dr L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies ? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling,—such as Phoßphodyne Essence of Life, &c—and had them analysed and found them to consist of "Burnt Sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates ] have peoved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study. Dr L. L. Smith is the only legally q jalified medical man advertising, and he has been in Melbourne 24 years, in full practice on NERVOUS DISEASEB LOSS OF POWER AND DEBILITY SYPHILITIC AFFECTIONS WANT OF CONDITION GKHJT AND RHBUMATISM. Db L. L. SMITH can be consulted by letter—Fee, £1. Medicines forwarded to all the colonies. Db L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins street East (Lafc the Residence of the Governor)

HITGHETSTS' —CELEBRATED— T) L O 0 D "D ESTOEBE, The Renovatob of the Human Blood. No more Physical Degeneration if the Lawß 1 of Health are observed, ordinary care exercised, and BLOOD RESTORER freely taken. THE want of a reliable remedy for Rheu- | matism, Sciatica, Gout, Lumbago, &c, has long been felt as one of the greatest calamities of the age. While other means and medicines have been proving them* selves vain and delusive, this remedy has been silently and steadily unloosing the cruel fingers of disease, and freeing captive men from their deadly embrace. The people are now requested to give Blood Bestobbb a fair and impartial trial, as the Proprietor would have it distinctly understood that the i cures of Rheumatism, &c, are due entirely to I his Medicine's Wonderful Eflect upon the Blood, by its Cleansing, Purifying and Invigorating power. Mr Hitohens recently has received the following testimonial:— Auckland. " SiBB, —I am fulfilling an urgent request of Mrs Andrews, of Lord Howe's Island, in the Pacific, in stating to you and to- Mr Hitchens the extraordinary cure made in her caße by the use of Hitchens' Medicinal Blood Restorer. Living on the Island, lam an eyewitness of the fact, and feel it a duty both to Mr Hiichens and to the general public to testify to the really wonderful effeot of that medicine. " Mrs Andrews was for four or five years a martyr to agonising pains in her hip; medical men calling it soiatica. She had been treated for it by the several doctors of the British men-o'-war visiting the Island from time to time, without the slightest relief to the intense pain. She waa afterwards taken to Sydney, hoping for sdme relief, if not a permanent cure, from treatment of the medical men of that city She was told sh/ was suffer ing from the hip disease, and her ouse was incurable. Without a ray of hope to lighten her future life; pain and despair her const ant attendants, her case was really deplorable. Mr C. E Ponder, the Manager of the Guano Company at Lord Howe's Island, one day recommended her to try Hitchen's Bloorl Restorer, as the remedy was just becoming known at the Islands, through the advertisement of Oppermane's cure, testified to the German Consul. Mrs Andrews readily yielded to the recommendation and sent ior two bottles to Mr Hitcbeas, Auckland. Within three weeks after uaing it she was able to rise and wals with the use of the crutch, and the pain in the hip had entirely gone. The medical action was truly marvellous, and her gratitude to Mr Hitchens is expressed daily in her prayers thanking God for her relief. " It is my firm belief that another two or three bottles—unfortunately not obtainable without long delay—would have wrought such a complete cure as to make crutches unnecesary. On my return to Lord Howe's Island, I shall take a stock of this wonderful medicine so that a supply will never be quite out; for no words of mine can adequately express my faith in its curative properties, after seeing the result of it in Mrs Andrew's case. " I am, dear Sirs, "Yours faithfully, " Thos. Geo. Chas. Nichols, " Master Mariner." I certify to the correctness of the above in every particular, Chables C. Pondeb. Declared beforo me this 13th day of January, 1882. P. A. PHILLIP3, J.P. Sole agent for the Thames District for the Medicinal Blood Restorer, J. W. Hall, Chemist, Owen street.
