-■■.• (Pjsr Pbess Association.) Auckland, Yesterday. The Auckland Summer Meeting took place today. There was splendid wefc^. ther, and fully 5000 persons were present. The alterations and improvements effected at Ellerslie gave great satisfaction to both horse owners and the public. Maiden Plate of 100 soys; distance 1£ miles: Bates' Minerva (Wattie), 7st 91bs, 1; M. Smith's Rubina (Harris), sst lOlbs*, carried 3lbs over, 2 ; J. Gallagher's Amazon (Butler), 7st 91bs, 3. Strathern also ran. The betting was 7 to 4 on Minerva. Rubina took the lead, and-*»-passed the stand first, Minerva being' hard held, Amazon a short distance behind, and Strathern considerably in the rear. They went round in the same order till coming into the straight, when "Minerva challenged and took the load, winning easily in a canter. Rubina a length behind, Amazon nowhere, and Strathern entirely out of it. Time, 2mins 18secs. Free Handicap, lOOsovs, 1 mile: Walter's Piscatorious (French), Bst 9lbs 1; Lennard's Kenilworth 'Taylor), 7Bt 71bs 2; M. Smith's Kingask (Laing), 3. Kalo, Yatapa, Tenambra, and Maid of Honor also ran. The betting was sto 2 sgainst Piscatorious, 3 to 1 against Kalo, Kingask, and Maid of Honor. The start was a poor one. Kenilworth made a grand race and looked dangerous, but was unable to continue, and Piscatorious won by a length and a half. Time lmin. 44ysecs. The win was a very popular one. Agent, Lone Hand, Angler, and Ra«r«nata * ' also ran. The betting was sto 4 against Canard; 4 to 1 against Agent and Clarence; 6to 1 against New Year ; 10 to 1 against the others. The jumping throughout was very fine. In the straight Canard came out of the ruck and won by a length and a half, Clarence being a good third. Time, 4mins 34secs. at;ckla.nd Cup Handicap, sweepstake of 15sovs. each, 500sovs. added; second horse receives lOOsovs., third horse 50sovs. out of the stakes. Distance, 2£ miles —Pilbrow's Welcome Jack (Butler), 7st 81bs, 1; Vercoe's Tim Whiflier (Taylor), Bst 21bs, 2; Bates's The Poet (Wattie), 7st 31bs, 3. Virginia Water, Fitzhercules, Merlin, Vortex, Rewi, and Gilderoy also ran. Betting: 2 to 1 offered and betting on Welcome Jack; 6 to 1 against The Poet, Fitzhercules, and Rewi; 12 to 1 against Merlin; 20 to 1 against Tim Whiffler. They got away to a very good start. On emerging from the cutting Welcome Jack . was leading by three lengths. Virginia Water made an effort and closed; the division between him and the leaders, but soon retired. Tim Whiflier came through his horses grandly, but could not come to terms with the leader, and Welcome Jack won by two lengths from Tim;;Wb.ifller; Rewi was last. Mitrailleuse also ran. Betting: 3 to 1 on Piscatorious; 2 to 1 on Welcome Jack ; 3 to 1 against the others.- Piscatorious led at the start, Minerva second. After coming out of the cutting Welcome Jack came to the front and won in a canter by three lengths from Minerva; Piscatorious third. On this race the totalisators gave a 32s dividend.
