OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
In continuing the crosscut yesterday quartz was met 25 feet from the hanging* wall of No. 2 reef, and in cutting through it last night a fine looking leader from a foot to 2 feet in width was disclosed, in which colors of gold were seen. The reef is standing almost vertical, what little dip there is being towards the north. It is also striking more to the northward: than the No. 2 reef. The quartz is very similar to that in No. 2 reef, being well impregnated with, favorable minerals. Its identity has not yet of course been established, but it is standing right up to No. 2 lerel. The crosscut is being pushed ahead, and was this afternoon about 3 feet past the reef, in a better class of country than when work was started. The shaft is down 30 feet, the country remaining of the same favorable nature. SOUTHERN CROSS.
The drive west is now in about 40 feet and the reef is showing strong in the face, about 9 inches or a foot wide, in good sandstone. A leader about 6 inches wide came in from the hangingwall, 6 or 7 feet back from the face, and passed through on the footwall side, striking towards the cross lode met with at No. 3. Another one about the same size, and with a similar course, was come upon close to the face. In both these bodies of quartz and also in the main portion of the reef colors have been seen in breaking. The reef was broken in the winze to-day, and good colors of gold seen through the general dirt. The cleaning up takes place to-morrow, and a payable yield is anticipated. MOANATAIRI. Cleaning up and retorting took place today for the capital yield of 3360zs melted gold. This is for a little orer a month's work, and is by far the best return banked during the year.
SMILE OF FORTUNE (OWHAROA.)
The manager to day banked 3140zs 3dwts gold, the yield from 400 tons of general dirt. This is the result of two months' work, but is very satisfactory, as during that time the mill' has not been working altogether on company's dirt. The mine continues to look well, and there is a large amount of dirt on hand ready for crushing.—Campbell and party have crushed 25 tons for the payable yield of 38ozs 7dwts gold. WAITEKAURI. Mr P. Kelly to day banked, on behalf of Butler and party, tributers in the No. 2 Company, 87ozs lSdVts melted gold, the product of a crushing of 40 tons of general dirt. In the Waitekauri No. 3 the manager has lately been taking out a small block about 12 feet high from the top of the winze sunk by the previous manager, Mr Hansen. He met with very good prospects and got a few rich stones. This winze is down 40 feet, leaving 150 feet yet to sink to meet the low level. Mr j Kelly proceeds to town to day, and will interview the directors as to the future working of the mine. It is not improbable that after the holidays; the winze will be continued to the bottom level. This work would test a large area of ground, and as the payable quartz is mostly found in layers in this district, there is a good chance of remunerative gold being discovered. GOLD RETURNS. Albania—McLean and party have treated 331ba stone for th.3 fine yield of 46ozs 7dwts gold.
