Te Aroha Special Settlement.

The Crown Lands Ranger reports re the, Te Aroha settlement:—Forty-one family settlers settled on the land, and 46 towelling: houses were erected for settlers, valued at £5748. In addition to this number there hare been erected in the settlement other dwelling houses, an hotel, (temperance), general store, out offices and buildings, valued at £1577. The total area approximately taken is 6767 acrel. There is an area in cultivation of 911 acres, which includes 210 Cacres in grass, surface sown. The prin^ Ipijpal part of the improvements have been made by the holders of sections from 60 to 250 acres. The holders of 3 acre sections have, with few exceptions, not effected much improvements as to cultivation. Messrs Grant and Foster s agent, Mr Hanmer, informed me that they have expended a sum of £90 (? £900) on bridges and roads between Morgantown and the settlement. Mr Hanmer also informed me that he had received a telegram, dated 3rd November last, from Grant and Foster's agent in London, intimating to him that they are sending to Auckland twelve more families.
