Mr O'Grady came from a consider* able distance to be present, and his song " I'm waiting my darling for thee," elicited enthusiaetic applause. Tuk landlord of the Brian Boru Hotel, Pollen street, Mr E, Twohill, has lately had considerable additions made to the premises. A section two stories high, 25 feet deep and 29 feet wide, has been erected in place of the old bar and parlor. Tue new bar, which is situated at the northern end of the building, is lift, x 16ft,, and has been fitted up very neatly. Adjoining it on the southern side is
the bar parlor, v commodious room 14ft. x 17ffc. This is uofc yet, however, out of the carpenters' hands. At the rear of these two rooms is a good-sized hall, from whinh a staircase leads to the second storey. Here there ate four apartments —two large ones in the front, and two of a smaller size at the back, all nicely ceiled and papered, though not as yet furnished. The staircase will be completed in n day or two, the pas laid on, and other details attended to. The alterations will give a deal more room besides considerably improving the appearance of the hotel and the street.
A Chbtstmas box to the shareholders in the Smile of Fortune Mine is announced, taking the form of als dividend. This mine is one of the (steadiest gold producers in the district, the present dividand being the fourth paid this year.
Aw excursion to Paeroa is announced for Boxing Day, when the steamer Te Aroha will leave Shortland Wharf at 6.30 a.n>. The improvements to the Te Aroha being now completed, this should be a capital.opportunity for excursionists.
The Eurek* Gr.M.Co., Otunui, have, through their legal manager, applied for a machine eito for their mill, and we understand that after the holidays arrangements for the conveyance of 12 head of stamps from the Karaka creek to their future place of operations will be pushed on with us tnuoh speed asposaible. Atany rate the company intends to have the battery on (.he ground and in working order before the wet weather comes on, and once there we have no doubt it will be kept constantly employed on remunerative quartz from ono or other of the mines. The erection of this plant will be the means of effectually opening up at our very doors what is generally believed will prove a payable field.
A SCRATCH cricket match will be played on the Waio-Karaka Flat to-morrow afternoon, play to commence at 2 sharp.
